This research focuses on the antecedents of perceived organizational support (POS) that may influence the perceptions held by employees of medium enterprises on organizational commitment. This research further investigates the relationship between POS and organizational commitment. The effect of power distance and in-group collectivism culture on organizational commitment in the context of the Malaysian cultural perspective has also been examined along with the effect of value congruence on organizational commitment.A two-phase sequential mixed method research design consisting of qualitative and quantitative approaches has been employed in this research. A tentative research model was first developed based on an extensive literature review followed by qualitative field study. Findings from the qualitative study were then combined with the initial model and literature review to develop the final combined model, which was then used to develop measures and instruments. In the second phase, a survey was conducted of 1000 employees in Malaysian medium enterprises in the manufacturing sector. 319 valid questionnaires were obtained. Partial Least Squares (PLS) based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach was applied to test the hypotheses. The result of this research showed that supervisor support, procedural justice, interactional justice, distributive justice and both intrinsically and extrinsically satisfying job conditions have positive influences on employees‟ perception of support. POS was found to have a significant role contributing towards affective commitment. However, the influence of POS on both normative and continuance commitment was found to be non-significant in this study. This study also confirmed the influence of POS on value congruence. Both affective and normative commitment, were found to be non-significant in relation to POS. In contrast, employee–organization value congruence was found to influence continuance commitment. The analysis also found that external factors do not limit continuance commitment. National culture was found to have a different impact towards organizational commitment. The findings also revealed that the strength of the relation between POS and employees‟ commitment is negatively moderated by in-group collectivism, however power distance was found to moderate the influence of POS only on normative commitment. This research contributes to the existing literature as there has been little evidence found in the literature relating to the GLOBE culture dimensions with organizational commitment, especially in medium enterprises. This study also extends culture literature by showing that culture can act as a moderator of the relationship between POS and both affective and normative commitment. By considering value congruence, perception of support, as well as cultural orientation, this study will benefit practitioners and policy makers of medium enterprises on how to foster organizational commitment

The paradigm shift to e-commerce in business transactions provides significant advantages such as expanding markets, improving customer services, reducing costs, and enhancing productivity. The global phenomenon is less aggressive in developing economies where small and medium enterprises struggle to provide internet services at their own expense due to limited government support and infrastructural deficiency. The acceptance of e-commerce adoption among Nigerians is slow irrespective of the huge population which should be of an advantage. This study investigated the factors hindering the adoption of e-commerce among Nigerians. A quantitative approach through a survey method was utilised with a total of 150 questionnaires distributed to Nigerian post graduate students studying at a Malaysian university. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 16) was used to analyse the data. This study finds among others that poor infrastructural facilities are the major factors hindering e-commerce adoption among Nigerian

Technological capability plays an important role in achieving competitive advantages. It also increases performance of firms, industries, and as well as for the countries. Its’ potential as competitive weapon has been recognized to the industry. Manufacturers are striving to outperform the competitors. They are not only competing on the profit made but also struggling to perform a high level operational performance. Traditionally, manufacturers’ performance were measured based on the accounting management measures. However, the focus had shifted from solely emphasizing on financial measures to more specific multidimensional operational priorities. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between two dimensions of technological capability (i.e. acquiring and upgrading) and four dimensions of manufacturing performance (i.e. quality, cost, delivery and flexibility). Stratified random sampling was employed and 302 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents ranging from small to large manufacturing firms in Malaysia. Pearson correlation analysis was employed to test the hypothesis. The study result shows that the relationship between technological capability and manufacturing performance is significant and positive. This study proved there is a connection between the variables. Further investigation is required to understand the impact of technological capability on manufacturing performance and to understand deeper the influences of differences by size of firms and industry characteristics

Attainment of the Malaysian Education Blueprint depends on effective training strategies and continuous professional development among academicians. In retrospect, the effectiveness of these programs depends on the degree of participation of employees’ and hence, reflects in the quality of Malaysian Higher Education system. Preliminary interviews conducted with several public universities’ training officers highlighted that low training participation as one of the most pressing challenges. There is lack of motivation among academicians to participate in training programs since they are not properly linked with vital human resources functions such as successive planning, promotion and annual performance appraisal. Since training programs are costly investment, participation to completion is therefore a precondition for such investment to be worthy. This paper presents a systematic review of existing training participation literatures to establish the empirical gaps and gain in-depth understanding on factors affecting training participation. Our reviews indicate that factors affecting training participation could be grouped into several recurring themes which are training-related factors, individual-related factors and organizational-related factors and job-related factors. Learning theories, training models, Theory of Human Capital and Theory of Planned Behaviors are commonly used as the basis of these factors. Direction of future studies is discussed

Factors influencing Social Acceptance of Residential Solar Energy Technology

    Get PDF
The world is facing many environmental problems such as global warming due to high demand of energy use, especially our dependency on fossil fuels. The Malaysian government has introduced various policies and programs to promote alternative green energy solutions such as solar energy to address this issue. However, social acceptance of solar energy could influence the feasibility of the energy as an alternative to satisfy the rising demand. Drawing from research survey and the academic literature, this paper explores the factors that could influence social acceptance of residential solar energy project in Malaysia. Data for this study were collected through a survey in Taiping, Perak; a city recognized as the top three most sustainable in the world by the International Tourismus-Börse in 2019. A total of 240 questionnaires were collected from the respondents in Taiping and the data were analysed using descriptive and correlation analysis. This study reveals that knowledge is able to determine society’s perception and change their opposition towards solar energy. In addition, high cost could hinder society’s acceptance of solar energy, thus their willingness to switch to the energy.
